I discovered yesterday that Southwark Residents can visit the inner workings of Tower Bridge for ?1, normal adult walk up cost ?9.80.

Will take my grandkids on their next visit (we still have half the Tower to do! Luckily I've got one of those annual cards, well worth it, we already got our money's worth on two visits to the Tower and one to Hampton Court!)

ETA: Pity they don't do the same for the Shard. I missed out on the original offer despite queuing for ages.

Good tip, thank you edp - I shall take advantage to go and look at the work of my ancestor - Hamilton Owen Rendel, who designed the original hydraulic mechanism. Yes I am just showing off, but very useful information nonetheless.

You can get a card for all the "Royal palaces" ie Tower, Hampton Court, can't remember the rest.

Unlimited entry for a year (or more depending on offers). With my partner and two grandkids we broke even after only two visits.

I was wondering if there were similar offers at other Southwark venues and came across the 'Southwark presents card' which offers discounts e.g. 2 for 1 at Dulwich picture gallery and the old operating theatre (new to me).

Thanks so much for posting this. I took my son last week and it was brilliant. Kids under 5 go free and, even though I only paid ?1 to get in, my son still got given a little workbook and pencil.
