After school childcare - advice please

Hi,

I am moving to to Dulwich in the next couple of months and from September will be looking for after school childcare for my 5 year old son. I have been living abroad for 6 years so am totally clueless as to the going hourly/weekly rate and any guidance you can offer would be really appreciated.

I will also be looking for occasional evening babysitting and am curious as to what I can expect to pay - here in NY its an hourly rate of $15-20 an hour, plus tip, plus cab fare home....makes for an expensive night out and I'm hoping it may not be quite as bad at home!

There is a big difference between after school care- 3.30 to 7pm say ( Maybe ?10 an hour) and babysitting ?7-?9 an hour - the latter being when child is hopefully asleep. Warning the 3.30 plus slot is harde to fill.Better off with au pair if you can fit one in.

A sixth form student from Alleyns or Jags would jump at this. Put an ad in the window of the newsagent in Dulwich village or track down a copy of the inter schools advertiser.
