looking for recommendations for a great local roofer, and good Damp specialists

Hello, I'd love recommendations from forum users (not businesses thanks) for a really good local(ish) roofer, and an excellent Damp company that people have had good experiences of using - I need a weird mystery Damp stain diagnosed! And I think I should get a roofer to check the seams/slates of a roof join to check it's not coming from there too. Thanks all so much.

Just wanted to add my recommendation for Russell Perring at RJP Roofing and Building. They just carried out a number of repairs on our house, the work is good quality and they were quick and the price was reasonable. 07852 972052 [email protected].

Steve Mumford has done jobs for us in the past and we asked him to quote in November. Strangely he never sent the quote after the site visit and didn't reply to various messages we left.

Hello, does anyone know if Russell Perrin is still operating? He has such good recommendations I would like to contact him. I sent a message a few days ago and tried calling with no reply and no a/m to leave a message. Maybe he's on holiday?

Sorry this is probably too late for you, but yes he is.

I texted him on Friday because I was concerned about the quality of the rebuilding of my bay roof which was recently done by others as part of an insurance claim (annoyingly, as he had done a very good job on it himself a few years back and it was still under his ten year guarantee).

He phoned me up within half an hour, said he would come to have a look at it the following morning (today - ie a Saturday), came as promised, told me exactly what had been done wrong (GRRRRRR), showed me on other nearby houses how it should have been done, and made sure I understood exactly what I needed to tell the builders/other roofers for it to be put right.

He also said if necessary he would come and do it himself (and charge the insurance company!).

I really can't recommend him too highly - oh and sorry but I've been misspelling his name for years, as I found out when I tried to google it - it's Perring not Perrin. Apologies!

    • Kwik Fit buggered up an A/C leak diagnosis for me (saying there wasn't one, when there was) and sold a regas. The vehicle had to be taken to an A/C specialist for condensor replacement and a further regas. Not impressed.
    • Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.
    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
    • I'd quit this thread, let those who just want to slag Labour off have their own thread.  Your views on the economy are worth debating.  I'm just stunned how there wasn't this level of noise with the last government.  I could try to get some dirt on Badenoch but she is pointless  Whilst I am not a fan of the Daily Mirror at least there is some respite from Labour bashing. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/grenfell-hillsborough-families-make-powerful-36175862 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/nigel-farage-facing-parliamentary-investigation-36188612
