CarliseJones
Hullo,I was just wondering if any other parents with babies suffering with reflux have been prescribed Zoton Fastab? My 6 month old has been struggling with reflux for 4 months and after the usual trials of Gaviscon and Ranatadine we were prescribed the stronger Zoton Fastab. My concern is that we've been taking it since last Friday (6 days now) and her reflux symptoms haven't really improved, how long does it take to work? Also, does it have any side effects? I'm a little worried because since yesterday sh's seemed quieter, listless, loss of appetite, had a temperature and for the first time refused to sleep in her cot last night, I have had this horrible cold that's circulating so I'm sure it may be that's she's just picking up my cold- but I just thought I'd find out if anyone else had a similar reaction on this medication? Thanks so much Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22138-reflux-medication-side-effects/ Share on other sites
Belle
I'm not familiar with that name - does it have a generic name ? Side effects we've had from reflux drugs have been more errr nappy related shall we say! I'd guess it's just a cold but of course wouldn't take that as a medical opinion. I think for us omeprazole, which is the drug we settled on for my little boy, took a few weeks to kick in. Some people seem to see an overnight differencce, we didn't - though increasing the dose certainly helped , could be worth discussing that with your doctor if no change in another week or so? Saffron
Zoton (lansoprazole) is another proton pump inhibitor, like omeprazole. It might take a while to work, or you might need to increase the dose, as Belle suggested. This is something you need to discuss with the GP who prescribed the drug or perhaps a specialist. The symptoms you describe would be rare SE for a PPI. A cold is far more likely, but b/c your LO is so young, you really need to be seen by a GP sooner rather than later. I would ring this morning and press them to see your baby today. CarliseJones
Thank you both, I have an appointment with the GP now just to be on the safe side! I didn't realise it could take a while for the medicine to kick in, will give another week and if still no improvement I'll speak to the specialist about increasing dose.Thank you so much for helpC Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22138-reflux-medication-side-effects/#findComment-525218 Share on other sites
Sol
Why don't you try to ticken up the bottle/milk with some baby rice powder. It helped my daughter Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22138-reflux-medication-side-effects/#findComment-525491 Share on other sites
