My boyfriend and I (aged 27/28) would love to join you for the next event. We moved to Dulwich a little while ago and don't know anyone in the area. We are very keen to meet new people for drinks, dinner, pub quizzes etc!

Is anyone free this Saturday (13th April) or Sunday (14th April)?

Katy.

Hi Katy,

I was looking into nights out and pub quizzes to meet new people too. My husband and I (aged 33) moved down here from Leeds in December and haven't met many new friends yet. We were talking about trying the pub quiz at the plough this Thursday if you fancy joining us to make a team?

Hi,

This is a great idea, my partner and I (31/2) are relatively new to the area and are keen to meet some new people too :-) We have also considered the plough for quiz nights, but can't tempt friends to come to this side of London for a Thursday night..

Hope to see you there for the 11th.

Ali

Happy Bank Holiday peeps!! :-)

Don't forget - Saturday night at House of Tippler on LL. I'll be there from about 7.30 and look forward to meeting some new local people.

Tim at HoT has been a star and arranged "happy hour" prices for our drinks.

See you all there! :-)

Hi Lisa

Do come! The first time I went I didn't know anyone & it was a bit daunting walking into a pub alone & not knowing who you're looking for!

I'll PM you my number.

Will try and make it obvious who we are - but if not, I'm 30's with short brown hair, female :)

Well, I'm pleased to say that last night was a massive success. Thanks so much to all who came. There were about 20 of us at one point! Great turnout.

Lovely to meet new people & see familiar faces.

Also a big thank you to Tim at House of Tippler for accommodating us & giving us discounted drinks all night. What a star!

Georgia has volunteered to arrange the next meet up, so look forward to seeing you all again at the end of June :)

It was lovely to meet a founding member! We'll try to carry on doing you proud. Thanks for coming and good luck with the move :) x

Hi, I recently moved to the area and would like to come to the next meet up. When is it please? Do I have to look out for anything so I know where you all are??

There is usually live music on in the exhibition every Thursday and is a really great night out. My house mates and some other local friends have been going on some Thursdays also if anyone fancy's trying something new?

Thanks

Hayley

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
