longer social cycle ride Saturday March 30th 9.30am start

Recommended Posts

AKA the Royal Parks Loop this is one of the longer rides. It starts earlier at 9.30am and ends at 1pm. Having said that it's still the usual easy-paced, backstreets ride and wonderfully flat.

It starts and finishes at the Park Life Cafe, Burgess Park, Chumleigh Gdns, off Albany Rd, SE5 0RJ which is near the big playground on the northern edge. The journey out uses sections of Quietway 1,and then all the way to Regents Park via Cycle Superhighways CS7, CS3 and CS6 (a lot of which is segregated and therefore super-safe for kids and beginners).

There will be loo stop, coffee break at Chester Rd Cafe in the Park and then back via Hyde Park, Green Park, Buckingham Palace, The Mall, Horse Guards and Big Ben. Then choice of routes back to Burgess Park for 1pm. The exact route will depend on timing on the day. Route map of options at

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for safer cycling in London. They are multi-purpose and free. Like all exercise cycling makes you healthier and it's fun so it makes you cheerful. Combining cycling with safe ways around London and the local area makes for lots of cheerfulness which is always good.

The rides are open to all -- the ride leaders are trained and insured -- you don't need to join the LCC or care anything about cycle campaigning. Or live in Southwark. To join in just turn up and make yourself at home. Any queries, text Bruce on 07729 279 945. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk

    • Useful link, thanks. I see that neither of the Dulwich Hill councillors are standing again but one of the new Labour candidates for DH recently left the Lib Dems… The Greens are led by someone who left the Lib Dems and full of people who left Labour. Reform is full of those who left the Tories. And the Tories are full of those who left our planet some time ago. Confused? You will be!
    • I'm sorry to learn that though Liam does seems well qualified. Hopefully with McAsh gone, Southwark Labour will turn to Charlie to fill the gap.
    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
