En suite in Victorian house - any experiences?

We are moving into a Victorian house with the typical Victorian three bed layout for East Dulwich. The big front bedroom has been divided up into a decent sized room and a small room. We were pondering creating an en suite if possible but the bathroom is at the back of house, as are the waste pipes, and the house is terraced. Has anyone put an en suite into a similar house? Is it possible and is it hideously expensive?!

I would give one piece of advice. Do not use a Saniflo or any other sort of macerator. They are quite literally shite!

As salsaboy hints at, I don't think you'll be able to put a loo there without a macerator. A shower room and basin might be doable though.

You should find out how the rear bathroom drainage connects into the main sewer.

The bathroom may be at the back of the house, but the drainage run might be out to the front of the house, as it's quite common for the main sewer to run down the middle of a road, therefore you could in theory directly connect into the drainage run in the area of the front of the house, rather than trying to connect with the existing bathroom drainage. Ask a builder/plumber to investigate possibilites...

Interesting, thanks. And I'd be happy with the washing stuff rather than a loo. I'm not a huge fan of being able to lie in bed and, um, hear everything. I think we'd actually have room for a bath.

Having an en-suite with a loo in it is like poo-ing in your bedroom.

If it's just bath/shower/basin, you might be able to route the waste pipes in the gap between the bedroom floor and the ground floor ceiling. Or maybe with just a little bit of boxing on the downstairs ceiling.

hi i did this the drain ran down the centre of the road so used a boxed in down pipe hidden in the porch original bathroom was at the back cant remember cost but i was broke at the time so couldn have been much
