Migration from Windows to Mac

I've got a new Mac and I need to transfer all my data from my old Windows PC. There is a 'Migration Assistant' function which I can't make work and the two laptops just don't connect.

I'm sure this is a really simple task for someone who speaks computer but that's not me so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of a company who would offer this type of service? Places that I've found online are all about computer repair and much more complicated tasks.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Here is a Youtube video of the proceedure. I have not viewed the whole video.

There can be a problem if you have already started to use your Mac and have already created an account,

But the guy in the video says there is a way around this.

Good Luck

The procedure will take many hours to complete'

The video suggests that you need to close any programmes that are running

and you need to turn off any anti-virus programmes and firewalls *

* This may be why your devices do not talk to each other.

The procedure is NOT simple it is very complex. There are many problems.

One of the problems depends on which Router you have. Some routers may not work wirelessly.

There can be / will be problems with E-mail and what E-mail you are using.

I-tunes can cause problems.

I have no personal experience on this subject. The Video got very deep and You really need to

watch it in full

Karen - if you have a Google or Microsoft account (or any other Cloud Storage account) then you could just upload all of the documents you want to transfer to the cloud and then download load them to your Mac. Or you buy a memory stick and copy them from the Windows PC to the stick and then from the stick to the Mac. I think Mac's have a USB-C port so you probably need a stick that has both plugs like this one:

There is some other advice in this article, but it is quite old.

    • I can't answer your question. But on them generally: it's changed hands in the last year or so, I think. I paid £35 for interior and exterior and they did a crap job. I'll go to the one on Herne Hill (or just do it myself if health allows) next time.
    • Aria came round to fix my tub drain when I'd messed up the seal. Came within hours, fixed the tub, and ran a bath to make sure it was okay. Here's where the fun starts. While he was over, I asked him questions about the rest of the plumbing round the house. I had just moved into a Victorian home that was previously being rented. Unsurprisingly, we found another leak in the tub and a drip in the kitchen tap.  He came back the next day to put a better pipe in my bathtub and replace the kitchen sink. Painstakingly figured out how to replace the hard-to-access kitchen sink without cutting through the wood panel with the help of his builder friend, Mark. Answered all my questions and clearly knew his stuff. All this right before Christmas holidays!
