AnotherPaul
http://www.retronaut.co/2012/02/alexandra-rose-day-peckham-london-1913/Peckham seems to have change quite a lot in the last 99 years. Does anyone recognise the roads towards the end of the film? I'm assuming it's Rye Lane? Undisputedtruth
It is Rye Lane by the corner of Hanover Park. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22522-peckham-circa-1913/#findComment-531252 Share on other sites

Undisputedtruth
You can tell it's Rye Lane by the Jones & Higgins signage. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22522-peckham-circa-1913/#findComment-531258 Share on other sites
maxxi
An early example of chugging in Rye Lane - was that a postman or a policeman whose bike the girl stepped in front of at 03:51 to make him buy a posy? And note the sophistication of early peckhamites as the chap in the boater goes to step in fron of the camera ot 03:18 but steps back just in time.Strapping lasses mind. jimmah
That's a great little film, where are they at the start of the film though (before Rye Lane) You know that whole website is full of unbelievably cool videos and pictures, look for the Heathrow ones before the airport. thanks for sharing this - that's my Friday night sorted!! Undisputedtruth
Did anyone spotted the number 12 bus? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22522-peckham-circa-1913/#findComment-531299 Share on other sites
PeckhamRose
Agree with jimmah. And thanks for this. We now get upset if someone doesn't pick up the dogshit (quite rightly) but there was loads of horseshit in the middle of Rye Lane! Was the opening section of them coming out of what is now the SortingOffice off Rye Lane? Not sure! PeckhamRose
Undisputed truth, yeah. I think that was our Louisa on the top, whinging about how dirty Peckham is! computedshorty
High Heels in 1939, or is it High Toes? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/22522-peckham-circa-1913/#findComment-531308 Share on other sites
Peckhamgatecrasher
Just a pastiche I reckon. I swear that was Stephen Fry accepting a rose towards the end of the film. Not sure!I think it's the Southwark Town Hall, before they added the art deco features, on Peckham Road. At 1min and 30 secs, I believe the women are in Havil Street where you can see the number 12 Bus and the green space next to Lucas gardens in the background.
