Postal vote deadline for EU elections

Hello, Anyone know why the deadline is the 8th May, as opposed to the 11 days stated on the form you fill in to register to postal vote? Am I missing something? First time I?ve needed to register to postal vote but thought I had until 12th. Helpfully polling card stating 8th arrived after deadline.

  This is a bugbear of mine too. I especially dislike unsolicited mail that is partially stuffed through the letterbox, leaving the letterbox open. It advertises no one is in and also lets heat escape.
