Yep me again...

Baby and i have both been treated for thrush for 3 weeks now and his doesnt seen to clear. His groin has cleared and mouth as well but what concerns me most is his neck! He looks so sore in a his little creases and they wont go away. I am tying so hard to keep the area dry but it is very difficult as somehow despite using bibs etc milk always end up in these creases and of course fungal bacteria thrives in that. I am trying to clean him with boiled water and cottonwool then pat dry and put canesten cream (prescribed) but it is really not getting better.

Any advice?

Caroline.

Sounds awful midivydale. I would go back to the doctor to make sure you have had the right diagnosis. As Saffron says there could be another bacterial infection on the skin which needs to be treated too.

In terms of getting rid of thrush itself (if the problem is definitely just thrush), it can be a long process. It took us around 10/11 weeks to get rid of it completely after Baby Knomester was born. It seems different to our case though as Baby Knomester didn't have it on his skin - just mouth and nappy area.

When we both had it these were the things we tried to get rid of it based on advice from the Breastfeeding Network (www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk), King's and Clare Kedves):

- treat both mum and baby simultaneously (or you?ll pass it between you)

- apply daktarin cream (micanazole 2%) to nipples after each feed

- apply daktarin gel (micanazole) to baby?s mouth after each feed

- mum to take flucanazole ? loading dose of 150mg-300mg on day 1 and then 100mg twice a day for 10 days

- sterilise muslins, dummies, teats, towels, bras, etc in Milton and wash at 60C

- wash baby?s hands regularly

- wash your hands after feeding or touching your breasts or baby?s mouth with anti-bacterial handwash

- keep doing this for at least 7 days after symptoms disappear

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
    • Pity you didn't quote what you are referring to, Mal. I didn't see the previous post, and my mind is boggling 😮
