longer social cycle ride Saturday June 15th 9.30am start

Recommended Posts

This is a Plus + ride starting earlier and lasting longer in order to be able to go further and explore new bits of London. It's still flat and easy paced using lots of quiet streets and off road paths, plus a lot of segregated cycleway, but there will also some stretches on busy roads.

The ride starts at 9.30am and finishes at 1pm in Deal Porter Square, opposite Canada Water Station, SE16 7AR. Riders will go into central London along National Cycle Route 4, following the river and passing Tower Bridge and Tate Modern. They will cross Blackfriars Bridge on the cycle segregation and then more entirely safe, segregated space along the Embankment (CS3) to Houses of Parliament.

After that along back streets to Chelsea Bridge and Battersea Park where there will be a coffee stop at the Pear Tree Cafe before returning on the south bank again following the river to Westminster Bridge.

At Westminster Bridge the group will pick up Quietway 1 at the Royal Festival Hall and follow it past the Old Vic to near Tower Bridge Rd. From there street route to Southwark Park, across the Park and back to Canada Water.

Philippa will be leading and the route map is here:

These rides are arranged by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. Like everything we do they are free and as friendly as we can make them. For more info on what we do, see our website https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk. To contact us email [email protected] (slow) or tweet @southwarkcycle.

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
