How to... make a copy of an antique armchair?

Hello!

I was wandering if anyone knows a local carpenter/jointer worth recommending. I have found this beautiful armchair at antique fair, and I would like to get a copy of it. Any tips/help appreciated!

I can't recommend one unfortunately, but I do know that it's likely to be a very specialist job.

Most furniture is inexpensive because it's mass produced by machine, a one-off duplication job can't be delivered like this, and there are no economies of scale.

So have a look at the armchair, and imagine how many hours work it will be. Then imagine what the hourly rate for a carpenter would be and you've got a base estimate for the cost.

You may well be staring at the ugly end of 5 or 6 thousand pounds for an antique reproduction!

Well, of course everything depends on the price, but I am willing to get a set of those, rather than just one

That chair is a repro anyway

(how much did you pay fo it btw?)

They're made in Italy or the Far East or the later ones in Eastern Europe

So, try the trade antique and decorators fairs in Newark, Ardingly, or Kempton

You'll find something similar and if you can't find an exact match, no worries, Harlequin sets are all the rage
