peckman
Bins around peckham rye park full of cans bittle etc after picnics . Surely there should be recycling bins in the parks ! Surely! I have asked the council officers about this before and apparently logistics dont allow it but come on .. singalto
Why, oh why don?t people take their rubbish home after a picnic? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/230404-our-parks-and-recycling/#findComment-1350745 Share on other sites
peckman
Completely agree but suppose you have to chosse tge path of least resistance and at least an option of recycling IN PARKS is a start Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/230404-our-parks-and-recycling/#findComment-1350746 Share on other sites
kiera
They had large recycling containers on Peckham Rye which had to be removed due to people abusing the facility and using the site as a rubbish tip (as they did everywhere else where these containers were sited) so the council will probably be resistant to the idea after that experience. I think you're suggesting small recycling bins alongside the rubbish bins within the park and that's much more likely to work. I expect it could be that many of them do not live in the area and use the park much....most locals do not poo on their own doorsteps. peckman
A park . Any park should be the place where recycling is promoted and encouraged ! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/230404-our-parks-and-recycling/#findComment-1350805 Share on other sites
Nigello
Surely any rubbish in a council-owned bin would be sorted and recycled at the plant, or does it all go to landfill? In the short term, putting two bins side by side could help. kiera
Only items put in recycling bins is sorted in Southwark, at their Veolia depot. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/230404-our-parks-and-recycling/#findComment-1350847 Share on other sites
Nigello
So the bins on the streets are emptied and just sent to landfill? Is there a second source on this, anyone? I'd've thought the rubbish would be somehow separated, at least to take out metal and glass.
