free bike maintenance July 11th 5.30-7.30

Recommended Posts

That's this Thursday under Peckham Arch. It's run and manned by Southwark Cyclists and we fund it ourselves. There's profession mechanic plus volunteers and between them they can fix most things. They carry small parts like cables but not bigger ones like brake pads or wheels -- so if you know or suspect you need those, bring them with you.

They will be under the Arch (see pic) which is at the south end of Surrey Canal Path or the north end of Rye Lane depending on how you want to think about it. It's free and open to all like everything we do. The guys will fix what they can and give wise advice. It's generally on the lines of "you need to clean this chain" and how to check your tyres for glass and flints BEFORE they work their way through to the inner.

If you want to learn how to do this stuff yourself then we also do a bike maintenance and tuition session twice a month at the Lettsom TRA hall in Vestry Road. This is run by Bruno and the next one is on the 16th, details here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/free-bike-maintenance-with-hands-on-tuition-6/

For further info on anything about us you could start with the website https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk and then (if you want) contact us via [email protected] (slow method), twitter @southwarkcycle or text me on 07842 640 207. This last might well be the quickest but also the least well informed.

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
