Ground floor extension - advice and experiences

We own a ground floor, one bedroom flat in a mid-terrace conversion, and are reaching a point where we want more space. We love East Dulwich and want to stay, but can't afford a bigger house here.

One option is to move out of London to commute in, but another is to extend out the back and add an extra bedroom onto the flat.

I was wondering if anyone done a similar extension, and what your experience was in terms of:

a) Was it stressful, and how long did it take? Did you have to move out for a long period?

b) How much did it cost?

c)Who did you use?

d) Was the cost and stress worth it for an extra bedroom?

Any advice would be much appreciated!!
