sociable cycle ride Sat July 13th and call for help July 14th

Recommended Posts

First things first. The ride starts at 10am from outside Canada Water Station and is 2hrs of easy paced cycling taking a look at Blackheath and ending in the same place, Deal Porter Square SE16 7AR

Canada Water is accessible from East Dulwich without lifting your bike. Flat access to the train in East Dulwich, transfer across the platform to the Overground at Peckham Rye and a lift which takes three bikes at a time in Canada Water. Or it's an easy cycle ride.

The plan is to do a ride to Greenwich via the Thames Path. Then into Greenwich Park and up the hill to the viewpoint next to General Wolfe. Follow this with a circuit of Blackheath and finally back to Canada Water, probably mostly on Quietway (Cycleway) 1.

The help is needed the following day with the unloading of bikes from the Dunwich Dynamo Ride. Southwark Cyclists provide return transport for 1000 cyclists and their bikes. Bruce who organises the rides is organising the unloading at this end between 11.30 and 3.30. You don't need to be strong you are needed to organise people and you don't need to stay for the whole four hours. Even one hour will be gratefully received. The unloading will be in Bolina Rd, next to Quietway 1 and the Millwall Ground. You can just turn up, but better to let Bruce know you are coming. To do this call 07729 279 945. More info available on the same number

All this stuff (ride and unload) is run by Southwark Cyclists who are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. It's all free (and in the case of the unload, unpaid). Everything we do is free and open to all wherever they live. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk. You can contact us by emailing [email protected] (slow method) tweet @southwarkcycle or text 07842 640 207

    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
    • Yes, but I want to know where he stands on all this stuff now. My feeling is it won't be any different from Labour?
