sociable cycle ride Sat July 20th starts 9.30am at Cutty Sark

Recommended Posts

This ride starts at the Cutty Sark in Greenwich or, more precisely, at the entrance to the Thames foot tunnel in Cutty Sark Gardens,SE10 9HT. The ride doesn't go through the foot tunnel straightaway but it will at the end. The destination is Cody Dock, tucked away off the River Lea not far from Canning Town.

This is a community-led project to redevelop the old dock and open up parts of the Lower Lea. It's got a nice cafe, marvellous flowers, a Damian Hurst and more. The group last visited in March when the weather was atrocious and we only did a ride through. This time the ride leader, Amanda, guarantees lovely weather.

Route will be east along the Thames Path past the O2 and the Flood Barrier, then across the river on the Woolwich Ferry and round the Royal Docks, up to the Greenway, west to Stratford and on to the River Lea towpath to Cody Dock.

From there it's a short run back past Canary Wharf, across the the Isle of Dogs and the Greewich Foot tunnel again. It's a fabulous route, loads of it traffic free and pretty much flat. The group should be back at the Cutty Sark by 1pm.

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. Like everything we do they are free and everyone is welcome. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk and we are part of the London Cycling Campaign which runs rides and events of all sorts and types all over London https://lcc.org.uk/events. No need to book but if you want re-assurance or a chat you can contact Bruce on 07729 279 945 or email him on [email protected]

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
