I want to make a summer dress for my girls!

I am a sewing novice, with a sewing machine which is never used and I'd like to try to make a summer dress for my daughters. Bearing in mind I can just about get the bobbin into the machine, any tips/ patterns / links to show me how to make an easy dress would be gratefully accepted! Thank you.

Take a look at http://www.etsy.com/shop/tiedyediva There are some really easy patterns that you just download, print and stick together. The step by step photographic instructions are really clear and easy to follow. Good luck and enjoy.

You can buy lovely fabric that is smocked at the top so all you have to do is one seam up the side, hem it ( if necessary)and make some shoulder straps. Peter jones etc sell it. Post the pics when done!Good luck

Not that I know anything about sewing (although I would love to) but I think Moo Too shop on Lordship Lane has both books and patterns you can buy as well as fabric I believe. Look for Amy Butler on Amazon she has some lovely books/patterns

The Scarlet Peacock (on here & Facebook) does classes in just this type of thing, worth checking them out.

Thanks everyone; I've found www.etsy.com thanks to Princess, what a fab site, loads of patterns for beginners and upwards. I have just bought a pattern for about ?3.70! I've seen Scarlet Peacock posts and have just joined their newsletter - thanks Molly.

Southwark council offer courses and one of them is something along the line of making clothes for chldren. I found it by searching 'courses' on the southwark website.
