Hi. I've posted this in the business section, but I'm not really a business as such - and am just testing the water. I live near Goose Green and am thinking about starting a small supper club. Basic concept is this: I 'rent out' my rather pleasant tree-bordered and very private garden from 7.30 in the evening once weather gets nice, initially perhaps to one couple for a romantic evening, or party of four (or you sit round the kitchen table if weather not so good). Background music of your choice. I serve you with a three-course meal, but disappear while you're eating and enjoying yourselves. Now, it won't be Come Dine With Me! No fancy cuisine (I'm not in Suzanne James' league!). Just hearty, tasty, homely cooking, the kind of thing I'd make when having friends round (and none of them have died yet...). Donation upfront of ?25 a head and bring your own wine. First menu might include:

Starter: pan-fried scallops with bacon served on a bed of rocket and watercress

Main: rabbit in cider stew

Dessert: plum crumble with cream

Coffee

Would anyone be interested?

Oh God, what have I started? Sadly, I'm not Rachel Khoo, but I'd be doing my best. And as I said, nobody died yet. Another possible menu might be:

Starter: greek salad

Main: venison steaks with a wine and cranberry sauce

Dessert: home-made lemon sorbet (to cleanse the palate)

coffee

    • It’s a flat fee levy payable by guests staying in hotel and hostel rooms, so added to the bill.  This already happens in Manchester and Liverpool ( I think in Liverpool it’s a percentage, so the more expensive rooms pay more). I read somewhere that Edinburgh is doing this next year? Charges of this kind are becoming common around the world. I think it absolutely makes sense for Southwark and other boroughs are bound to follow.
