Hi

We are upgrading the forum's server, in fact we are moving it to a new one with shiny new hardware, 100Mbs connection (instead of 10Mbs) and double the RAM. There was a red light on the box that said "About to break, take action!" so it had to be done as soon as possible.

So to move it over to the new server we are going to take it down tonight at 21:00 and bring it back up when we can (these timings may change). Ideally this will be the next morning (Thursday) however if things go wrong it maybe longer. Also to throw a spanner in the works I'm going away on Friday lunchtime until Monday morning, so should anything go wrong with the server move and it's not resolved by 12:00 Friday expect a forum free weekend. Hopefully this will not happen but I thought I'd warn you just in case.

(Edited because I put the wrong day on there. Thanks for pointing it out Dean. Drew.)

Good luck admin.

No doubt on Monday there will be at least one thread saying "what the Hell happened to the forum, it's well out of order, admin (whoever the hell that is) should have had the decency to come to my house and inform me personally!!!".

    • Who was Diana Rayworth, when 'resting from acting'. Her successful career was very sadly cut short following a devastating accident.
    • thanks Jenijenjen and all - yes, i remember walking or taking the bus from the elephant (where i was working) to Camberwell to get there.  I think Tim - who's still at Franklin's -  was there in those days, and the woman who ran the cafe!  Other food places that i remember fondly are the ones in Neal's Yard (with the Hunkin sculpture that you could put a coin in ) and the basement lunch place at the Tottenham Court Road junction with Hanway Street...
    • Did you try the emergency number posted above? It mentions lift breakdowns over the festive period outside the advertised  times. Hope you got it sorted x
    • People working in shops should not be "attempting to do the bill in their head." Nor if questioned should they be  trying to "get to an agreeable number." They should be actually (not trying to) getting to the correct number. I'm afraid in many cases it is clearly more than incorrect arithmetic. One New Year's Eve in a restaurant (not in East Dulwich but quite near it) two of us were charged for thirty poppadoms. We were quite merry when the bill came, but not so merry as to not notice something amiss. Unfortunately we have had similar things happen in a well established East Dulwich restaurant we no longer use. There is also a shop in East Dulwich which is open late at night. It used not to display prices on its goods (that may have changed). On querying the bill, we several times found a mistake had been made. Once we were charged twice for the same goods. There is a limit to how many times you can accept a "mistake".  There is also a limit to how many times you can accept the "friendly" sweet talking after it.
