The plan is to explore a bit further west on the south side of the river so we will be starting from Burgess Park which is on the west edge of Southwark.

We will start and end at the Park Life Cafe, Chumleigh Gardens, SE5 0RJ. On the way out we will go via Vauxhall and Battersea Power Station to Battersea Park. Then round the park and on to the nice paths along the Battersea and Wandsworth riverside, eventually reaching Wandsworth Park. If there's time, the group might go a teensy bit further and have a look at the rowers on the Putney Embankment.

There's time for a loo and coffee break in Wandsworth Park, but sadly no time for a round on the well-maintained Crazy Golf Course. The return has great contrasts. The group will go back along the river to the bridge over Bell Lane Creek where the River Wandle joins the Thames and then head south into Wandsworth town centre. Don't be frightened by the thought of this. There are shared use pavements and cycle crossings to avoid the traffic on the one-way system. Then through King George?s Park which has a nice path by the Wandle. At the south end of the park, turn left and start heading home via Wandsworth and Clapham Commons.

This is a fairly flat route, 28km, a lot of park and traffic-free riverside, with a nice easy pace all the way. The route is here ( although bits of it have been tweaked since this map was made):

These rides are brought to you by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for safer cycling in London. Like everything we do they are free and welcoming. You don't have to live in Southwark or join anything to take part. You are welcome, enjoy.

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
