Ice Lollies for the dogs

Struggling to get our dog to drink enough water so am looking at ice lollies.

Can't say it's my favourite flavour, but am starting off with chicken broth ice pops, with a stick made of dog chew - or just a bowl sized frozen block.

The internet has ideas based on blended strawberries and watermelon, which sounds good too.

Does anyone have any tried and tested recipes for their pooches?

Unless your dog has a dairy sensitivity, have you tried adding a little milk to the water?

Yes - thanks - she does like that - not sure too much dairy is good though.

Goats milk is supposed to be closest to dog's milk, or they can have lactose free milk (or almond milk)

Maybe she just find's water boring....maybe she's right.....

I don't know about dogs, but I have a bag of frozen banana slices which I dip into from time to time. Bananas are three quarters water. Other fruits may be available.

Fruit s definitely good for them - we had a dog who would pick blackberries for himself.

Apart from grapes . They cause liver failure . Personally I woukdnt feed my dog any fruit

Including (with apologies for pointing out the obvious, given the above) raisins - even a small amount can be fatal for some dogs.

Our blackberry picking dog used to love grapes too - he used to roll on them to peel them and then eat them!

There are definitely foods dogs can't eat - additives to cakes, biscuits etc can be fatal.

Good news though - our dog loved her chicken flavour ice pot and is now not worrying me as much.

Still won't touch water though....

And chocolate btw . As far as I know grapes and chocolate are the ones that will kill them

How about adding some ice cubes to the water to cool it down a bit? It might just be lukewarm.

tried that....

tried chilled water, room temp water, filtered water, bottled water....

maybe it's just a phase.

I can add water to her food and that's ok.

she does a bit, but she's been really unwell so it's not normal behaviour

Obvious but have you taken her to the vet ? Is she eating ? Have you tried putting a bowl outside? I'm only saying as my dog loves drinking out of our pond rather than her bowl .. perhaps it's something about fresh water?
