sociable cycle ride Sat Sept 28th starts 10am Peckham Square

Not exactly attractive weather to be publicising bike rides but, hey, right now Saturday's the only day in the next week without a blob of rain scheduled on it.

So here goes: the next ride is the Peckham to Blackheath Loop leaving Peckham Square (Peckham Library, Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5JR) at 10am and returning at 12 noon

The route has been tweaked a bit to include Telegraph Hill. That's a hill of course but it has a great view over London. After that the group will come down to Brookmill Park and follow a not too steep river route up to Blackheath and Greenwich Park. At Lewisham there will be a small diversion to look at the new landscaping at the confluence of the Ravensbourne and the Quaggy.

There's another short stop planned at the entrance to Greenwich Park where there are loos and then a return down through the park and along Quietway 1 (now renamed Cycleway 1) which is a favourite route and by far the best Quietway so far. The round trip is 10.5 miles, all quiet streets or paths. There are steep bits but plenty of time is allowed for walking the short steep bits. A route map is here:

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists who are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Southwark Cyclists website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk, the LCC website is here: https://lcc.org.uk/?ref=nav. You can contact us on [email protected]; tweet us @southwarkcycle or text 07842 640 -- you only get me but I try to be helpful

    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
    • Yes, but I want to know where he stands on all this stuff now. My feeling is it won't be any different from Labour?
