Ok the Snowboarding family has sadly recently left ED in search of more space. It has suddenly hit me that whilst we have not gone far I know no one and there are very few places like the edf for meeting other mums. I think there are quite a few 'exiles' out there especially in the home counties and I wondered whether there was anyone our way and if they wanted to meet up? We are between Orpington and Sevenoaks....any friends out there who are up for setting up a north kent branch of the edf?!?

Or if you live anywhere else and want to find others maybe post here too?

(Hope can still stay here and chat in the family room though!!)

Hey Snowboarder - I heard on the grapevine that you were moving out this way. We moved to Sevenoaks at the beginning of February. We're slowly settling in but agree it's so much harder to meet others and find out what's on without the help of the EDF. I've been fortunate in that two of my NCT friends have also moved to Kent.

Please get in touch if you fancy meeting up - I'm around Tuesday afternoons and Fridays. Your boys would be very welcome to explore/destroy our garden or I can show you the delights of Hollybush park.

Hi Ruth, the mumsnet local sections over here are VERY quiet. My post from last year is still on the first page! The NCT isn't hugely active over here either. I don't miss a huge amount about our ED lives although I've lost count of the number of times we've said we miss the forum. I now realise I met about 90% of my mummy friends first time around via the EDF!

We are in Kent too ..... We moved end March. We are in deepest darkest Kent (nr Ashford) but still only half an hour away given the lack of traffic and decent m0torway!

Love it here but agree it's far harder to find out what is going on locally etc! We are getting there slowly and had our first play date today :)

I found the Internet forums non existent/ unused too!

Surestart activities a bit hit and miss but the absolute gem has been the local free magazines, seems to be where everything is advertised! We found them in the local Tesco. We come under Tonbridge which may be close to you- seems to be lots going on there!

Agree we should have an exile group :)

Best ways to find mums in your new area to meet is via netmums , I am chairmum of the local Bognor Regis group.

You can either attend the organised gatherings on the netmums local area thread or post an advert it respond to a meet a mum advert on there . It's a great website .

Nowhere is quite like Dulwich though , and the forum is just fabulous for organising meetings .

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
