This ride starts from Deal Porter Square(SE16 7AR) which is opposite Canada Water. It's a flat 9.5 miles using lots of dedicated cycle path and well worth learning if you would like to cycle up to central London in safety. Canada Water Station has a lift which takes three bikes at once and is on the Overground. It's accessible from East Dulwich Station (flat access), changing trains to the Overground across the platform in Peckham Rye.

This will be the usual easy-paced, two-hour ride. Riders will head to the river then follow the Thames Path/Cycleway 14 to Dockhead. The plan is to cross Tower Bridge, where traffic is very slow and tightly controlled, and join Cycleway 3 and ride this all the way to Westminster Bridge. The group will cross Westminster bridge and start back along the Thames Path past the London Eye.

They will stop at the South Bank to admire the view, and then cycle along to Blackfriars Bridge, where they will turn south on Cycleway 6. Quite soon turn left on to Cycleway 14 and ride this all the way back, joining the outward route at Dockhead. The route map is here:

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for more, safer cycling in London. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk. You can contact us on [email protected], tweet us @southwarkcycle and text Bruce on 07729 279 945. Everything we do is free and open to all and as welcoming as we can make it

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!
    • Hi  I really thought I'd seen a more recent post on the forum about home education meet ups. I can't find it though. • Thanks for your reply. I’ve subscribed to Ancestry a few times in the past but felt I wasn’t using it enough to warrant keeping up the subscription.
    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
