Nanny Central

Hello,

Just a word of warning for those looking for a nanny in this forum. We were contacted by this agency (Nanny Central) and introduced to 4 nannies, of which we decided to give one of them a chance. When things didn't work out after 4 weeks (this nanny made a lot of empty promises during her interview) we contacted them to ask for a partial refund of our fee.

They refused to even speak to us - supposedly because we had agreed to pay the nanny in cash for extra hours.

The agency found us on the ED Forum (we posted an ad) and also found the nanny on here (she also posted an ad). She contacted us both and charged us over ?1000 as a referral fee. If we had checked our inbox sooner we would've saved ourselves a lot of money.

So be cautious when approached by them.

Maru,

Thank you for your comments, first of all you didn?t need to accept the Nanny if you felt that she wasn?t the right fit. We would?ve been more than happy to provide alternative Nannies for you. The 4 candidates that were put forward for the role all met the criteria given, and were fully vetted by our Nanny Consultant, Hayley (who has over 10 years experience as a Nanny) and myself.

We also both know that we exchanged numerous telephone conversations and emails regarding the candidate at the point of employment termination. Nanny Central accepted that the candidate was unsuitable for you and your family but the way in which you treated the candidate was also unacceptable. Examples of this are as follows;

1). Upon further investigation it was brought to our attention that instead of paying the candidate the PAYE amount in full, 1/3 was being paid cash which was blatant tax avoidance. The other 2/3 was paid via Nanny Tax. As a recruitment agency it is our duty to ensure that all of our childcarers are treated fairly and are paid through PAYE in full. This is in order for them to obtain credit, mortgages etc and why so many PAYE nanny agencies exist to give them a fair chance. Based on this we could not risk you being untruthful with ourselves and future candidates, hence why we were not willing to continue working with you going forward.

2). The contract that was provided to the candidate was one which Nanny Central wasn?t happy with as it was biased towards the family. When you were told that this contract wasn?t suitable Nanny Central were then advised that the family would use the Nannytax contract. This is the standard contract which Nanny Central use so we were more than comfortable with this. Upon further investigation we then found out that this didn?t happen and the family?s own contract had been used.

We pride ourselves on being a professional agency and it?s our aim to work with candidates and families in a fair and honest manner, going above and beyond whenever necessary. We expect this to be reciprocated by both the family and the candidate, and in this situation we felt that you didn?t meet these standards.

We wish you luck finding a suitable Nanny.

Thanks,

Samantha

    • Labour's latest Rye Lane Ward newsletter is now saying that demolition in the square will start this summer and that the wider station upgrade is expected to be signed off this year - as explained above, sadly wrong on both counts. It describes the renovation of adjacent buildings on Blenheim Grove as "successful", despite having lain empty for a couple of years, longer than the actual renovation works, before saying "the Council is hopeful [it] will see its first new occupants move in to this year". Cue desperate attempt to get at least one in before end of financial year? As for the other topic, in "November 2023, faced with a huge increase in graffiti across the borough, Labour-run Southwark council took action". Nice turn of phrase eh? Rather, after community pressure regarding years of inaction by said Labour-run council, it's finally started to do a little bit, a little late. Surely there would be more chance of resolving issues if our council could for once be part of an honest, informed discussion?

    • Just wanted to recommend Roger from Critter Solutions Pest Control if anyone’s dealing with mice or other unwanted guests. We had a sudden issue with mice in our home's kitchen and after calling around, these guys were by far the most responsive and professional. Roger arrived on time, was really friendly, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. He did a full inspection and sealed up some access points we hadn’t even noticed. Since his treatment we haven’t seen or heard anything since. What I appreciated most was that it didn’t feel like a rushed job or a hard sell – just honest advice and thorough work. All backed with a guarantee.  Would definitely use them again (hopefully won’t need to!) and thought I’d share in case anyone local is looking.
    • Another recommendation for Jeremiah! He's cleaned our windows for a couple of years now and is always reliable, friendly and does a great job
