Boxing Day social ride around City: starts 10am

Is it too early to mention post-Christmas excitement or does it offer a glimmer of hope? This two-hour, easy-paced Boxing Day ride around the City is enchantingly peaceful and quiet. The City is London's oldest bit -- the city merchants who run it are unsentimental about pulling old bits down but also realistic enough to know that it's the old bits that draw the crowds. The City is built on what passed for high ground when the Romans arrived and looked for a defensible place that didn't flood.

This ride starts from Deal Porter Place opposite Canada Water station at 10am. The station is on the Overground (check that it's running) and the Overground is one stop from East Dulwich station. There's walk-on access at ED, a change across the platform at Peckham Rye and some good lifts at Canada Water. If you feel that's cheating the cycle route is here: https://cycle.travel/map/journey/131783. If that map doesn't start in the right place then cycle.travel can customise it for you but, to save it, you will have to register (free).

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends (this is where Werner comes in) on behalf of Southwark Cyclists who are very grateful. Like everything else we do these rides are free and open to all. We are the Southwark branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk. The LCC website is here: [lcc.org.uk]. You can contact us at [email protected], tweet or follow us @southwarkcycle or phone Bruce who organises all these rides on 07729 279 945.

This Boxing Day special is run by Werner. More detail here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/boxing-day-healthy-ride-2/ . There's no need to book for any of our rides, just turn up. They are all easy-paced and most last about 2 hours with a local start. All free.

    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
    • Yes, but I want to know where he stands on all this stuff now. My feeling is it won't be any different from Labour?
