The cycling hypermaniacs who organise Southwark Cyclists holiday rides never stop. There's another one on the 28th and this time the weather forecast is, if not precisely good, certainly a lot less off-putting.

This one starts at 9.30am in Peckham Square (next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5JR)and ends in the same place at 1pm. The cycle route from East Dulwich is here: https://cycle.travel/map/journey/132834. I've started it from East Dulwich Station but you can change it to a more convenient starting place. I think you need to register to save your maps but this is a very user-friendly map-maker and very knowedgeable about bike routes.

Werner, who led the Boxing Day ride (see what's on passim) feels that it will not have metabolised all the turkey so proposes at + ride for the last Saturday of the year. Route ideas are sketchy at the moment, but may include a big loop incorporating Greenwich, Q14 to the South Bank then Q1 back. Leave Q1 for Falmouth Rd and Q7 (CW17?) to Burgess Park and a preview of some of the Spine route. Not many hills :)

We will proceed at our usual stately pace with a coffee stop about half way. A lot of quiet streets and avoiding any too-busy tarmac. What?s not to like?

This ride is organised by Bruce Lynn and friends (this is where Werner fits in) on behalf Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. The LCC campaigns for more bike-friendly roads across London and we concentrate on the same thing in Southwark. The whole series are called Healthy Rides because they help you to be healthy but more than that they get you out of the house, meeting people and gaining confidence on your bike and the road.

You can contact Southwark Cyclists on [email protected], tweet us @southwarkcycle; or text Bruce on 07729 279 945. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk, the LCC website is here: https://lcc.org.uk. All our stuff is free and open to everyone no matter where you live. Enjoy.

    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
    • Yes, but I want to know where he stands on all this stuff now. My feeling is it won't be any different from Labour?
