Free, open to all and everyone welcome. The weather forecast says chilly with some sunshine. Perfect cycling weather. The ride starts at 9.30am outside the Park Life Cafe in Chumleigh Gardens (SE5 0RJ) in Burgess Park (cycle map from East Dulwich https://cycle.travel/map/journey/129745). It's a 3.5 hour loop up to the Royal Parks and back again, returning to the cafe at 1pm.

The ride will be the usual easy-paced excursion, using lots of quiet streets and paths, but with some short stretches of busy road. The plan is to go up to town via Waterloo Bridge, Covent Garden and Bloomsbury to Regents Park. There will probably be time for a coffee stop there, before going on via Marylebone to Hyde Park. The group will do a circuit of Hyde Park, (may be extending into Kensington Gardens), then down through Green Park and past Buckingham Palace and St James Park. There is segregation from Parliament Square, up Birdcage Walk, across in front of the Palace and then along Green Park and across into Hyde Park where there is a whole lot more. It's very good and well worth enjoying if you haven't already been up there.

The route back comes over Westminster Bridge, through Kennington back streets to Burgess Park. Jane will be leading and the route is at https://gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_4989284.html.

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
