Online Massage Classes

======================

Thai-vedic massage & Hair by Gerry have had to close during the Lockdown but that doesn't mean we can't help you stay active and healthy during this difficult time for all of us.

Much as I hate having my photo taken, (much less being on video!) I have a tripod and a head-cam strap that I've used for massage training videos, so lets give it a go!

Join us at the following dates and times using the Zoom app* on your phone, tablet or laptop, using this link

https://us04web.zoom.us/j/7350966381

Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays 3-4pm. Starting with Indian Head Massage this Thursday 26th March

I will alternate between Indian Head Massage & Thai yoga Massage, as both can be done fully clothed and without oil.

What you'll need:

=================

>> A partner, relative or housemate (dont drag anyone in from the street!) who is willing to give as well as receive a massage. You'll give a massage for 30 minutes then receive for 30 minutes, under my instruction.

>> For Indian Head Massage (Thursdays): a kitchen or folding chair placed in a space big enough for you to walk around it.

>> For Thai Yoga Massage (Tuesdays & Saturdays): a yoga mat, duvet or futon placed on a floor space with room above & below the receivers head & feet when lying down & space for them to stretch their arms out to the side. Plus a pillow for their head.

I'm offering these as free classes for now as I know many of us are on reduced incomes (in our case reduced to nothing!) but if you are still receiving a wage or have other funds please do make a ?5 donation for each class via bank transfer to Account number 03076141/ Sort code 08-90-66

* If you dont already have the Zoom app the link above will prompt you to download it.Try to do this before the class to save time.

==============================

Got a birthday coming up and dont know what to buy?

Why not buy a Hair by Gerry or Thai-vedic Massage gift voucher? Obviously the gift voucher recipient wont be able to use it until after the Lockdown, but it will help us keep our businesses afloat while we aren't earning any income.

And the gift voucher doesn't have to be for someone else, you can use them as a way of pre-ordering. As soon as we reopen we will contact you first to book you in before anybody else. Prices are as listed on our websites:

https://hairbygerry.mytreatwell.co.uk & https://www.thai-vedicmassage.co.uk

Order your gift voucher(s) from [email protected]

Online Yoga & Qi Gong classes

==============================

There are lots of online yoga classes doing the rounds, but why not support some local yoga teachers - many of whom are also self employed and having to find new ways to earn a living. These are the teachers I've visited and know to be good at what they do:

Maha Rudra Yoga - Rabin, the teacher who runs classes in the Hindu Temple in Honor Oak, has moved his classes onto Google Meet, which is like Zoom. The link will prompt you to download it if you dont have it. The classes are free so simply join the class 6pm Sundays via this link http://meet.google.com/dtk-fyws-hc

ESPH - the gym on Lordship Lane in east Dulwich, that I go to (normally) is posting free daily live Yoga and Pilates classes on its instagram page https://instagram.com/esph_fitforlife?igshid=1eyzi8y98hj0q which stay there for 24 hours. Best viewed from your phone, just click on the black logo at the top to view the videos.

Iwona Yoga who mornally teaches at her studio in Upland Road or in Dulwich Park in summer, is using Zoom to teach twice daily Vinyasa Flow classes, 10.30am - 12pm or 7.30pm - 9pm. Minimum donation ?5 for non workers - or else ?10. Pay by bank transfer or Paypal. Contact Iwona [email protected] for joining and payment details.

George Monkhouse - Peckham Rye based Acupuncturist and Qi Gong Teacher is running Qi Gong classes at 10am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and asks for a donation of ?5 per session to join, or ?12 for the week, via Paypal to [email protected]. George is using Zoom and his link is https://us04web.zoom.us/j/451213175

Petition for support for the self employed

===========================================

A package for support for self employed workers is currently under discussion in Parliament, but until its passed its important that we keep the pressure on Politicians, so that businesses like ours dont have to fold. This petition, by IPSE (The Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed) calls on the government to create a Temporary Income Protection Fund to support freelancers through the Coronavirus crisis.

Sign the petition! https://www.change.org/p/uk-parliament-create-an-emergency-fund-to-support-freelancers-with-coronavirus-income-loss?use_react=false

Stay safe (but stay active!)

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
    • That was one that the BBC seem to have lost track of.  But they do still have quite a few. These are some in their 60s archive. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0028zp6
