Hi I am beginning to look at childcare options for when I return to work. The potential problem is I may have to go back to freelance contract work, which means I could have work for a few weeks then nothing for a couple of weeks then something for a week, and so on.

Does anyone know if there are any childminders, nannies, nanny shares or any nurseries that can or do work on this basis?

Any advice would be great.

Thank you

Emma

A couple of riends in a similar position have found that some childminders are happy to reduce the number of days when you're not working, i.e I have a friend whose son goes 4 days a week to a childminder when she's working, and the childminder is happy to drop this down to 1 day a week when she has time off between contracts, even if that's for a couple of months at a time.

She finds that this works well as he keeps up his relationship with the childminder and other children in her care on that one day a week even in periods when she's at home full time, so that it's easier for him to settle back in when she's on the next project and he's there the majority of the week, (plus gives her a day to get other stuff done even when she's not working!)

Hello there,

My name is Angie (25) with 5yrs experience of childcare and I am looking for a role in the area. CV available upon request.

A bit about myself:being someone like Nanny McPhee's relative :)from Hungary.

When I arrived to England(2009) I worked as a sole charge nanny on a farm and looked after 3kids in the heart of the beautiful english countryside-Fairford, Gloucestershire (1yr old,2.5yrs old and 4 years old girls.) I had to start 8 am and I finished 7 pm. I had to wake them up up ,take them to play groups, wildlife park, magic land, take them for long walks around , make their breakfast lunch and tea, feed them, changing nappy, bath them together, occasionally babysitting, take them to the library, playing a lot, read them before bedtime, singing nursery rhymes. I used to drive daily as in that area there were long distances so I took the kids to different places by car. And also had to take care a triplets in Hungary during 2 years since they were newborn. I also worked for high net worth families in London

I am very happy person, creative, fast, flexible, trust worthy, reliable and most of all I love children and challenging myself to make them develop. Cooking is more like a hobby then a task to me.( finished the La Cordon bleu course-France in 2006). One of my favorite thing is to tell fairy tale before putting the ``little elfins`` into bed with using my expertise of making a cup of my magic hot chocolate with marshmallows.:) I have a driving lisence with first aid certification. I have 5yrs+ experience in taking care of children and make them improve towards their interests.

I am looking for a challenging role which will allow me to utilise my knowledge of expertise.

I work very well under pressure and enjoy the enthusiasm what children could give me. I consider part or full time roles etc.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.:)

    • Messaging, messaging, messaging. That's all it boils down to. There are only so many fiscal policies out there, and they're there for the taking, no matter which party you're in. I hate to say it, but Farage gets it right every time. Even when Reform reneges on fiscal policy, it does it with enough confidence and candidness that no one is wringing their hands. Instead, they're quietly admired for their pragmatism. Strangely, it's exactly the same as Labour has done, with its manifesto reverse on income tax, but it's going to bomb.  Blaming the Tories / Brexit / Covid / Putin ... none of it washes with the public anymore  - it wants to be sold a vision of the future, not reminded of the disasters of the past. Labour put itself on the back foot with its 'the tories fucked it all up' stance right at the beginning of its tenure.  All Lammy had to do (as with Reeves and Raynor etc) was say 'mea culpa. We've made a mistake, we'll fix it. Sorry guys, we're on it'. But instead it's 'nothing to see here / it's someone else's fault / I was buying a suit / hadn't been briefed yet'.  And, of course, the press smells blood, which never helps.

    • I am keeping my fingers crossed the next few days are not so loud. I honestly think it is the private, back garden displays that are most problematic as, in general, there is no way of knowing when and where they might happen. For those letting off a few bangers in the garden I get it is tempting to think what's the harm in a few minutes of 'fun', but it is the absolute randomness of sudden bangs that can do irreparable damage to people and animals. With organised events that are well advertised there is some forewarning at least, and the hope is that organisers of such events can be persuaded to adopt and make a virtue of using only low noise displays in future.
    • There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda and far more across their briefs than any minister I've seen in years. The consensus was that Labour are so unpopular and untrusted by the electorate already, as are the Conservatives, that breaking the manifesto pledge on income tax wouldn't drive their approval ratings any lower, so they should, and I quote, 'Roll The Dice', hope for the best and see where we are in a couple of years time. As a strategy, i don't know whether I find that quite worrying or just an honest appraisal of what most governments actually do in practice.
