Daytrips out of London with toddler?

Hi,

I wondered if anyone had any suggestions for days out of London with a toddler?

We have a 16-month-old and we are all off from nursery/work next week. We're not travelling anywhere but thought it would be nice to go on a daytrip to the beach or the countryside.

He can walk now, but of course only short distances! Any ideas? Thank you!
