My son has just started Year 11 after an unexpectedly bad GCSE English mark - like many other pupils. There's lots on the BBC news websites and The Guardian has run an article too about the unfairness of Ofqual 'moving the goal posts' half way through the year. Basically they put up the pass rate to 9 points - I believe an unprecedented rise - subsequently a lot of children who were expected to achieve a B or C in certain subjects received a D. The Government are saying that it is innappropriate for them to intervene in the business of Ofqual - which begs the question who are they accountable to? If anyone has experienced the same situation with their children I would really like to know whether their schools are appealing as I understand others are. I have heard a whisper of an independant enquiry - I've written to Tessa Jowell and would encourage anyone who feels the same to write to her thanks Karen
