I wonder if any close neighbours/residents who lived on that stretch in the 1950/60's might remember the name ?

I think asking Vincent Ayres on his twitter account might be fruitful

"Ayres was opened by Vincent?s father John Frederick Ayre ? known as Fred ? in 1955, on Evelina Road. When he passed away 30 years later, Vincent took over the business with the help of his mother. His wife Frances joined in 1990."

"For Ayres, social media is increasingly important ? and Vincent, who tweets from @ayres_the_baker ? says it?s a good way to engage directly with customers. ?Anybody who has an SE15 tag on their Twitter, I follow,? he says."

    • if you have safeguarding concerns, please contact social services. Unfortunately, financial abuse of the elderly is an ongoing problem. In my professional life I investigated a large number of cases where the elderly person lived alone and was befriended by helper/carer/gardener/ church visitor etc.  However, this may not be the case in this instance.
    • Was shopping in the big Tesco the other day, got to the tills to find all the staff on the manual tills had gone home and that there was only ONE automatic cash machine actually working. Massive queue, each customer was taking over 10 minutes which was extended by individual complaints of clubcard offers not being honoured and the staff blindly telling the customers they were lying and said customers having to prove themselves by walking to the shelves where the offers are clearly displayed. Even more infuriating when one woman hogged the machine for half an hour and paid with card! On the only working cash machine! Told the staff, no apology, he just rolled his eyes and walked off. Absolutely ridiculous.
    • Another positive review for Polly and Steven. Highly recommended. They’ve been cleaning our flat in East Dulwich for a year and we’re always very happy with the results. Polly’s number is 07727042636
    • Thank you! Your satisfaction is my priority, so it's wonderful to hear such positive feedback.   Best wishes
