Late Night Gatherings In Peckham Rye Park

We live on Colyton Road, and most nights in the supposedly closed & locked park there are groups of what sound like many more than six people having parties / gatherings, with lots of singing, shouting, screaming etc until gone midnight - there's some there right now. The poor park warden always shouts that he's closing the park around 9.30, but I appreciate he's not expected to evict people who won't leave.

I've submitted online reports to the Met several times, but have had no response apart from the usual acknowledgement of submission emails. I would call 101 but suspect it would have the same result, and cost me money. I appreciate they are busy and probably short staffed, and are wary of groups after the incidents in Brixton etc., but surely something can be done? It's not just the noise at night, or the blatant flouting of the covid regulations which may well contribute to a second wave, it's the amount of rubbish that is left behind. My partner & boys go for a walk early every weekday morning, and are appalled at the cans & bottles strewn everywhere. Also, with no toilet facilities open, there's probably plenty of other material left behind.

I can't believe I'm the only person who is aware of, and getting increasingly frustrated with, this issue, although I can't seem to find any posts on this forum, which is a surprise!

Anyone got any ideas...?

I popped there one Sat eve and couldn't believe the state of the place with noise, litter and lack of social distancing. I was surprised at the time that I hadn't seen more noise from local residents- it was like walking into a festival. I think you have to make ALOT of noise to get things addressed but it can have results. There was a post on Dawsons Heights that was taken down and that situation looked even worse. Mary123 has since posted an update so it might be worth contacting her to see if she has any advice. Personally I would call 101 and I would write to Cllr Richard Livingstone. I don't see how the council can justify tolerating the disturbance to residents, the litter (the cost of clearing it each day must be huge) and the flouting of covid rules. I appreciate that many people will be doing nothing wrong but there are too many who are. Good luck

Never seen it like that before, it is full of people who would probably otherwise be in clubs, pubs and houseparties, or at actual festivals.

I also wonder if the demographic of the area is changing, Peckham is very trendy now, lots more young people who were the majority of the people around at that time. Obviously not all young people leave rubbish etc but some do...

This actually makes me more sympathetic to the revellers while not excusing the late night noise and the debris left behind. There?s a lot Of pent up energy there which needs an outlet.

I've lived here 15 years and there's never been this level of activity, day or night. Daytime is fine, I appreciate this year is different and people need to get out, especially with the good weather, and it's actually nice to hear the buzz. I also appreciate that people would ordinarily be elsewhere, maybe at friends, family, the pub, club, holiday, but hanging around in those numbers, making that amount of noise, that late at night, in a closed, locked park, and leaving that amount of litter, is just massively inconsiderate, careless, selfish & thoughtless - the very definition of anti-social?

Maybe I'll try 101 next time, but last time I did that (after having bikes stolen) I was amazed to find it had cost me several ??s, for no benefit...

Think the residents of Dovercourt and a Woodward Roads were calling the police due to parties on Alleyn?s top field. Richard Livingstone replies to emails. Worth trying to contact him.

How about Southwark Anti Social Behaviour Unit. Can report online, they should be able to liaise with Parks department. Take photos of the rubbish?

Also find out safer neighbourhood police contact.
