Decent Local Building Surveyor

Hi,

I know this has been asked a few times in this forum but I thought I would ask it again to see if there are any new suggestions.

I am in the process of buying a flat in ED. My offer has been accepted and now going through the motions, including getting a survey done. I have had a home buyers survey done before on a previous property I had under offer and it was one of the surveys the lenders farm out to some non-local, template-loving surveyor who didn't tell me very much except that I should get further specialist surveys done. All-in-all seemed rather pointless.

Therefore, I am looking to get a local, independent building surveyor to provide a full structural survey. In particular I would like to be able to tailor it to what I want and to give me advice on my major concerns (eg damp) rather than tell me that there ?might be damp so get a specialist in?.

Can anyone recommend a quality building surveyor?

Thanks.

Hi - did you have any luck. I don't know whether they are any good yet, but we have just had ours done by a company called banbridge surveyors.

I went with them because they were very reasonably priced and they received decent reviews online. Martin has also been really helpful talking me through the various options and other concerns etc. So far I recommend, but I don't have the report yet.

[update: received the report - all great, would definitely recommend.]

    • In answer to your question Pugwash, the variety of foods that they offer both in canned goods and fresh. i personally no longer am a Sainsbury customer after years - feel that the quality of both their fruit, veg and fresh products ie meat, chicken, fish is not of a quality that they use to be. Agree with Sue that Co- Op does not make for a pleasant shopping experience.  On the subject of Waitrose not coming to ED - one can only assume that market research has been done by the company which makes it a non starter which, when you think about it is strange as all the big contenders are here.. Perhaps the powers to be have never heard of ED!! Maybe a Lidl or Aldi will rear their heads but somehow can’t see it as space is way to small. Really is strange that Waitrose is a non arrival - never ceases to amaze me how many eateries are in Lordship Lane alone and the majority all survive.
    • What is it that makes Waitrose so special! Admittedly I have shopped a couple of times in the Orpington and Beckenham one - sometimes buying food which I cannot get else where. Their 'basic range' is not bad. Price for price and quality - M & S.
