Two sociable cycle rides Sat July 18th

Recommended Posts

Two rides this Saturday, both starting at 10am. One is a longer ride to Battersea Park and back. The other is a two hour ride to Brixton Mill. If you want to come you MUST book using Eventbrite although the admin is a bit disorientating. Both rides are included as a single event so the header info (correct for ride 1) is not correct for ride 2. Don't worry, press on and choose the ticket for the ride you want. There should be six places available for each ride.

Even more confusingly because there are two rides with different end times and locations within this "Event" the ticket will give the overall timing and the SE16 post code for both rides. The correct timings and locations for each ride are below. I'm sure there must be an easier way than this.

The Link is: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/southwark-cyclists-healthy-rides-tickets-113443827542

If you are booked but find you cannot make the ride, please CANCEL on Eventbrite. That way we do not wait around, and possibly may be able to let an extra person on the ride. Even at the very last minute it is worth cancelling as some riders keep a close eye on bookings right up to start time.

Now the important bits:

Ride 1. this starts in Deal Porter Square opposite Canada Water underground station at 10am and arrives back at 1.15pm. The outward leg follows the Thames (National Route NR4) to Blackfriars, then crosses Blackfriars Bridge and continue CW3 along the Embankment to Westminster Bridge and Millbank. Riders will use NR4 through Pimlico to Chelsea Bridge before re-crossing the river to Battersea Park and a well-earned coffee stop at the Pear Tree Caf? by the lake. The return starts by leaving Battersea Park under the bridge to the new development around the Power Station and follows the route through this to Battersea Park Road, then via Vauxhall and an inland route south of the river back to Canada Water. All in all this is a flat 15 mile ride passing lots of interesting stuff. More information and photos in the ride report from Sept 30th 2017, http://healthyrider.weebly.com/healthy-ride-reports-august_sept-2017.html Philippa will be leading.

Ride 2. Peckham to Brixton Mill. This two-hour ride will start at 10am in Peckham Square, which is next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, SE15 5RY and finish at 12 noon in the same place. It's a 10 mile circuit on mostly quiet streets. The route starts along the Canal Path and across Burgess Park, then Wyndham Rd, Myatts Fields, Slade Gardens, Ferndale Road and eventually Brixton Windmill. There will be a brief stop at the mill which is still surrounded by the new work for an education centre. The return route passes Brixton Prison then cuts through to Brockwell Park, continues through the tunnel at Herne Hill Station and along to Ruskin Park, on past Denmark Hill station to Lyndhurst Way and back to Peckham Square via newly pedestrianised Rye Lane. The route is here:

    • Well I did say I stand to be corrected! Fair enough, their website only seemed to list three branches. Perhaps it's a franchise model?  It's known as 'agglomeration' in economics Rookie error.
    • I didn't know there was a word for that — thanks!
    • This is just normal business behaviour. That's why there are so many coffee shops in ED and shops selling gifts and interiors stuff, clothes, restaurants.  If there's more than one business of a similar type then it can benefit all of them up to a saturation point and keep up quality. It's all sounding like many think Chango has made a malicious move when it actually sounds like it's owned by one guy who has a good business that has done well.   Anyway this is all great advertising for both empanada places. Very close by is the organic grocer who sells really good value and very tasty samosas and other Indian snacks which are also worth trying.
    • Hello, Does this lovely little panther have a name? & Is he neutered & microchipped?
