Have a property that we bought as a buy to let investment that we are now looking to sell on (due to a change in circumstances) and want to at least try, in the first instance, to avoid using estate agents and incurring the associated fees.

Gumtree has been brilliant in the past for finding prospective tenants, but has been less successful in trying to find prospective buyers (although we've had lots of approaches from estate agents via gumtree).

Would welcome any suggestions people may have on other 'independent' avenues there may be or they have tried - bearing in mind the house isn't in Dulwich (but in Bromley), so the property section of this forum probably isn't appropriate.

You're not in the area or the property? If they let someone advertise a house in France for sale, then can't understand why you can't advertise your house. Did you pm Admin or post it up on a thread?

Maybe try Southeast Central to advertise; the Sydenham Forum or SE23.

You could use a prop co to make your own website including floor plan and photos. It isn't dear, in fact my friends and I were amazed at what good value it was when we looked into it. I posted the name of the company in response to a thread by marmora man on a simir topic. You should also try a local paper or website in Bromley, surely?

For a one off exercise I wouldn't have thought a website would get enough exposure in its own right and I'm not aware of a EDF equivalent for Bromley (unless anyone knows of one?), certainly one thats as prolific anyway. Have thought that a private ad' in the Metro on property day, might be worth a go.

I'd have thought this is the way to go - once you're on Rightmove you're exposed to virtually all buyers.

I heard of someone who had a property to sell, she contacted local colleges and hospitals and put an ad either in their works newpaper or on their notice board. Got alot of enquiries and eventual sale. If there are any large employers in Bromley i.e. Churchill Ins? they may be worth trying.

I am having to sell my father and step mothers home now that they are both in care. Contacts in Sussex got 3 estate agents valuations which put the property in a ?160 -?165 k price range. We heard via the grape vine of contacts in Sussex that someone was interested. I calculated price of estate agent fees (2%)on both upper and lower prices, and got a private sale within 2 days.

    • I personally think is a great idea Bobbly and would love if there was a section for it. I wouldn't offer free gardening under the "for sale" section as I would expect something in exchange and wouldn't expect our cat being looked after for free under the "wanted" section, as an example.

    • I have fond memories of Govinda's I used to go there  back in the 90's (maybe earlier) for an affordable tasty lunch..I was wondering if its still around. Now I have to make a point of going there. Does anyone else remember a really affordable basement cafe run by the church in a street off of Golden Square? parallel to Regent Street? I also used to love the Vegetarian cafe on Neal Street in the basement (Neal Street Cafe?) and there was an inczredible inexpensive authentic Japanese resturant I use to go to with my Japanese friends (who introduced me to it) tucked away behind Long Acre where that brown brick modern building ('modern' I think it went up in the 90's!) now stands that fronts Long Acre and Neal Street..I think it was called Asakasa or something?
    • I wonder where he could be deported to, Hungary the obvious candidate in Europe, perhaps he would get on well with Modi?   Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage both said Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood should look at whether Abd El Fattah's citizenship could be revoked to enable his swift removal from the UK. Farage said in a letter to Mahmood: "It should go without saying that anyone who possesses racist and anti-British views such as those of [Mr Abd El Fattah] should not be allowed into the UK." So just racists views are ok Nige?
