My doorbell rang a little while ago and I asked who it was. A male voice said ?The Children?s Deaf Society?. I said no thanks and he left. I did not see what he looked like. Making doorstep calls for a charity in these times seems very peculiar and I felt it was a way of seeing if anyone was in. Anyone else had this?

The Children's Deaf Society do do Door to Door visits.

A National Deaf Children?s Society fundraiser can be identified by:

Their identification badge, which has their name and ID number on it.

The tablet computer or clipboard they are holding so they can take down your details.

Our fundraisers ask for a regular monthly commitment in the form of a direct debit. To do this, they will ask you for address details and your bank account details. We do not fundraise for one-off contributions in our face-to face fundraising, but if you would prefer to provide a one-off contribution, then you can make one.

Important to assure any visitor is a genuine fund raiser.

This afternoon someone knocked my door, I sent my LO to ask who it was.

He asked without opening the door of course & the guy said he was from green peace.

My son said sorry my mums not here

The guy sounded baffled (possibly because of my sons young sounding voice)

But I definitely didn't hear him knock on my neighbours' door which was what baffled me!

Sometimes they go in pairs and knock on alternate doors so you won't necessarily hear the one leaving you knocking on your neighbours door.

We had them too yesterday and the phone calls have started for donations - it must be a very difficult time for charities.

    • I only stayed in 15mins.  Then showered well!!  I don't know who is responsible.  I can't figure out who to make a complaint to, other than the centre itself, and since everyone (staff) can see the problem, that obviously isn't going to make a lot of difference.  Actually, I don't even know if it was sand.  It just reminded me of seaside pools when I was a kid, when there was always sand in them.
    • Grove Vale library has been closed since last Thursday. The timing seems to coincide with the Thames Water leak on East Dulwich Grove, but it’s strange that M&S is unaffected.
    • I had one leaving me a present outside my back door, three nights running. I made a spray of chilli flakes and garlic in water and sprayed it all over the poo sites (after cleaning them up!) and there was no repeat offending. It may be a coincidence...
