Fixing/correctly wiring speakers on hifi..SE24

Hi

I have refound an old, secondhand, B&O hifi/cd player. I remember the cd bit working before it got put in a cupboard, but now I can't seem to get any sound to come out of the speakers (even though they are lit up). My question is three-fold

1. Wondering why speakers won't work now.

2. Wondering whether I can plug speakers into any hifi and use them?

3. Wondering whether I might be able to fix/recommission the hifi bit and somehow play music from iphone or similar through it? (Not sure if it works like this.)

I'm pretty hopeless I know, but seems such a nice bit of kit (albeit old).

Any buffs who might be able to advise? Happy to pay for someone to come and have a look if it seems viable.

Thanks

Caroline

Two things. There is a little known one-man hi-fi repair place in West Norwood called Goodways. It could be worth taking it to him and asking why the speakers aren't working.

As regards playing from iphone etc one way to do this is via a Bluetooth receiver - I do exactly this using one like this https://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/bluetooth-audio-adapter

Mine plugs into an AUX input on the back on my hi-fi and then I can just use hi-fi like a bluetooth speaker.

You might check whether the unit has a mute button or setting.

You could check whether anything can be heard through headphones.

You could also find and download an online manual for that model and see if it has anything useful to say. Here for example is an extract from one example I found, for a Beocenter_2200.

    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
    • Not miserable at all! I feel the same and also want to complain to the council but not sure who or where best to aim it at? I have flagged it with our local MP and one Southwark councillor previously but only verbally when discussing other things and didn’t get anywhere other than them agreeing it was very frustrating etc. but would love to do something on paper. I think they’ve been pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks and my cat is hating it! As am I !
    • That is also a Young's pub, like The Cherry Tree. However fantastic the menu looks, you might want to ask exactly who will cook the food on the day, and how. Also, if  there is Christmas pudding on the menu, you might want to ask how that will be cooked, and whether it will look and/or taste anything like the Christmas puddings you have had in the past.
