This is part of Southwark Cyclists series of regular Saturday morning rides. Most are two hours but this is one of the longer ones starting at 10am from Deal Porter Squ, opposite CW Station, SE16 7BB and riding to Battersea Park and back. Canada Water is on the Overground and the station has a good lift taking three bikes. The station is accessible from East Dulwich which has walk-on access and then across-the-platform change at Peckham Rye.

Philippa will be leading this easy-paced ride, 3.5 hours, which finishes at 1.30pm. There will be a coffee break at the Pear Tree Caf? in Battersea Park. Riders will go out along the Thames path route via Borough Market and Tate Modern to Blackfriars Bridge then Cycleway 3 to Westminster then back streets to Chelsea Bridge to cross back. They will be looping through new streets at the Power Station then into Battersea Park for a break. The return will be along Thames ? mostly road, some riverside path ? to National Theatre. From there Cycleway 1, quietish streets and Southwark Park to Canada Water. Probable route at https://goo.gl/eNvKSi or on attached GPX file (canada-water-to-battersea-2017-route.gpx).

Groups have ridden this route a few times, most recently June 15th 2019 (see report http://healthyrider.weebly.com/healthy-ride-reports-june-july-2019.html). But this time the weather will be better. There is more information about the rides at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/

Because of coronavirus there is a cap on numbers and everyone must book via Eventbrite. The link is

here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/southwark-cyclists-healthy-ride-to-battersea-park-tickets-118964478959 There are 17 places. If you find you cannot go on the ride after registering, please CANCEL on Eventbrite so the place can be available for someone else. Please also do give a phone number as we have to be able to provide these if riders need to be Tracked and Traced. And finally please bring a face mask for the Cafe queue and in case it's needed for any other reason.

I think that's about it. If you have any queries you can text Bruce on 07729 279 945 or DM me here. Enjoy.

    • It happened again tonight. This time a group of kids ( I hate saying that, because it makes them sound less intimidating than they are), threatened to throw a water bomb at me. When I dared them, they started lobbing them. Then they started saying they were going to kill my dog and one of them jumped over the fence of the Japanese Garden and took a running kick at my dog, who got out of the way. He jumped back over the fence, then came back, came within a meter of me and threw a water bomb really hard at me.  I can't be sure it was exactly the same crowd as last time, though I suspect the male ring leader could be.  The police came and were amazing - as was the park warden - and are fairly confident of the identity of one of them and think they may have tried to arrest him before.  There were maybe as many as 15 of them, aged 16-18, all Caucasian, girls and boys (girls being just as aggressive as the boys). The ring leader is a slight man, dark hair / eyes, possibly with facial hair about 5'6", petite, wearing an all-blue tracksuit.  So please be careful when you're in the park around 6.30 / 7pm. The local SNT have been informed.
