seenbeen
It could be a nursing chair. here's a mid-19th century onehttps://www.sellingantiques.co.uk/668346/a-mid-19th-century-walnut-nursing-chair-circa-1860/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/262870-any-mid-century-modern-furniture-afficionados/#findComment-1449211 Share on other sites
womanofdulwich
I think it would be hard to nurse as the arms are wood and too high Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/262870-any-mid-century-modern-furniture-afficionados/#findComment-1449221 Share on other sites
mayumi
The arms are high, we sink back in, its quite comfy. The pins on the side come off when someone of more substantive weight sits...annoyingly. Its a bit like a bucket seat in some ways.... but not! diable rouge
NewWave Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I think its late 1900'sDid you mean to say late 1800's? If so I agree it's more likely to be from around that time, the curves are Art Nouveau-ish. I'm sure it's not mid 20th century, probably just a label given to it by the seller to attract interest as it's en vogue. It's quite clunky and a mish mash of styles, so could be a one-off, e.g. a chair that's been modified or a design student's piece of work. I'd email antique experts and get their thoughts... NewWave
actually looking at it again I tend to think its definitely more arts and crafts/sucsessionist in style and I think you could be spot on that its a one of carpenters piece Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/262870-any-mid-century-modern-furniture-afficionados/#findComment-1450450 Share on other sites
mayumi
Thanks for the advice, everyone. It does feel like a one off piece. Whoever made it, made it in twos and we have a pair. It's pretty solidly built, wishing we can work out how to upholster it properly!
