Ghana is totally safe especially Accra. Benin, I don't know so much about. Make sure you take the taxi all to yourself and don't share it unless with people you know. Extra careful at night, and make sure you learn the 'Azonto' dance before you come back. The food is delicious in ghana, especially the Jollof rice, don't know about Banku, it's an acquired taste.

Both countries are great. It was a long time ago when I was there but they are two fairly stable safe countries. Enjoy the hot spicy soup in Ghana, the fou fou and the kenke. Go check out the coast and visit the very well organised historic sites for a good reminder of things that happened in the past. As a single woman traveller its just the normal advice in relation to keeping a watch on what is going on. People are very friendly but there will always be the ones after the tourists. Not wandering on the streets on your own at night time for example. Not leaving a bag on a seat in a cab on its own where someone could grab it. I can always chat more about these things if your OH would like :-)

    • I was in there recently and never noticed a smell, but I think it's been mentioned on here before. Have you asked the staff about it?
    • The empty shelves is well reported, but the sewage smell has been awful for weeks if not months, and just keeps getting worse. It started off near the Costa machine/ behind the delivery and collections booth thing, but now it hits you the second you walk in the store. I’m amazed nothing (visibly at least) appears to be going on to fix it. Somewhat relieved it’s not just me who can smell it!
    • Andy Burke has done 2 plumbing jobs for us in the last few weeks and we highly recommend him. His number is 7983 688 451.
    • I presume the terrapins originally came to the park as unwanted pets. It seems to be fairly common for people to dump them in park ponds etc when they realise they don't stay the small size they were when they bought them.
