Am well in the dog house with my son having promised a family trip to Legoland with a stay in the hotel for his birthday in December to discover it is closed til March - oops.

Looking at alternatives (it will be his 8th birthday and we'd like to take his 5yo sister too).

Has anyone been to the Harry Potter Tour? What did you think?

Any other tips for a big birthday day out/evening away?

How about an overnight at Chessington World of Adventure? Theme park closed but zoo & Sea Life open. Entrance included plus breakfast with Elves and a visit to Father Christmas with gift from ?119 for a family of four. Blooming bargain!

My husband took me for our first wedding anniversary last month and it was awesome!

We were like big kids and had such a brilliant time!

And make sure you try the Butterbeer.

There's a Starbucks kiosk inside and then a cafe too, I think that it sold sandwiches and salads, that sort of thing.

We were booked on the 12pm slot, so I didn't see much of a queue then. There's a big area with tables and chairs so I'm sure you could always sneak in your own food if you wanted.

Have a fantastic time!!

    • I checked - the Hanway Street place was Mandeer - it moved to New Oxford Street and was replaced by Hakkasan - very different prices.
    • Suppose it depends on how many Christmas cards from family and friends you’re waiting to receive. It’s been the Christmas period so surely give the post delivery service some leeway. Like Sue I’ve not posted off so many this year but some I still write letters to  e.g my late mum’s cousins and other family  but hey ho that’s something I do and enjoy.  I used to hand deliver Christmas cards to a lot of neighbours on my street but gave up this year as realised that most of them I don’t see or speak to and can only count on a few to call a true friend or neighbour.
