Pre-planning application service. Is it worth it?

I need to get planning permission to do some conversions to my flat. We have the structural engineer's drawings and the architect's plans. We are managing the project ourselves.

Has anyone used the pre-planning service? Was it worth it? What were the pros and cons of using the service?

Shouldn't your architect be advising you about this?...

The architect is a member of my family with no experience of Southwark's way of working. Whether it's worth it really depends on the borough. I'm hoping that someone here has used the system and can give a bit of feedback.
