Admin, please move if this isn't in the right section.

I have a record deck I'd like to take to a charity shop (the deck has connections to convert vinyl to MP3s or whatever via appropriate software).

Does anybody know if either the hospice shop or the Mind shop takes electrical items? I know when I took an old vintage lamp to the hospice shop they wouldn't take it until I had removed all the wiring, however this deck is newer than the lamp was (though around ten years old I think).

Ah thanks, I'll look into that.

I'd rather it went to a charity.

ETA Thanks so much, I just looked at their website and it does seem they collect.

I have some other things to donate as well, some quite bulky, so that would be really helpful

Oh that's odd.

What was it?

Could it have been a new person who didn't know they didn't take them?

The person who took it off me checked with someone out the back. It was new and maybe the person out the back wanted it for themselves!

Yes, so the charity shops which do take them get them PAT tested.

I've always assumed they have a volunteer who does this for free, as it probably wouldn't be worth their while otherwise.

I've also always assumed that the ones who don't take them don't have such a person.

But of course I could be wrong on all counts 🤣

    • Received this response from TFL today (15 October)   Thank you for contacting us on 1 October regarding the ongoing diversion of the P13 bus route between Rye Lane and Sainsbury’s, Dog Kennel Hill, since 29 September. You’re absolutely right that the diversion is due to Thames Water works in the area. While other traffic may appear to be flowing freely along Avondale Rise into Ivanhoe Road, our local Service Delivery Manager has confirmed that buses are unable to safely make the turn from Avondale Rise into Ivanhoe Road in either direction. This is due to the size and turning radius of the vehicles, which differs significantly from that of smaller vehicles. We understand that diversions can be inconvenient and appreciate your patience while this work is ongoing. We’re continuing to monitor the situation closely and will restore the usual route as soon as it is safe and operationally feasible to do so. Thanks again for contacting us. If there is anything else we can help you with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can call us on 0343 222 1234 and we'll be happy to help you.
    • If anyone is looking for a tree surgeon, I recommend Hamish and Cut Above Tree Management. He was very helpful and personable, quick to respond and did an excellent job of removing a wonky tree in my garden with a minimum of hassle. A fantastic service!
    • Another recommendation for Robert here. Lovely guy. Serviced our boiler AND made a small safety amend free of charge. We'll definitely be using again! He's on 07952584171
