Has anyone been to Homemade recently?

I went into Homemade yesterday having not been there for a while and was really shocked at how badly it was being run and so disappointed for the place. I've always loved Homemade, always been an advocate of it and sang it's praises on the forum before. The two guys that run it have always delivered fantastic food and you can tell they're passionate about food.

Yesterday however neither of those guys were around and the place was being run by 3 very young (nothing wrong with that per se) people who had absolutely no interest in serving their customers or doing their jobs and were much more concerned with having a fun time (again, it's great that you enjoy your job but not to the detriment of the customers). Whilst I waited 20 mins for a chicken sandwich to take away (they have all the ingredients there and it wasn't busy at all), I watched as they stood chatting and doing nothing, talking about their private lives, how one was a DJ and can they get a job for the other one, putting CDs on and dancing and singing around the kitchen all the time whilst I'm waiting for my sandwich and other customers were waiting for their lunch. I just couldn't believe it. Keeping a cafe afloat is HARD work and they seemed to have no concept of that. I know many people who work in that industry are just doing it as a part time thing or they don't want to go into it as a serious career but the fact is they're still getting paid to do a job, it's not work experience! Also Homemade has a very open plan space and therefore the way you conduct yourself and what you say can be seen and heard by all customers in there meaning you have to be a little more professional than that.

I hope those two guys still run it and it was just their day off otherwise I feel really quite sad for the place as it was one of the good ones.

Interesting. Usually at least one of them is there. I haven't been there for ages - used to really like it but was disappointed last time I went. Ordered with a quiche/tart which came with a selection of mixed salads apparently. The cost was 8 or 9 pounds and alongside the tart was placed a couple of teeny spoonfuls of salad. Felt a bit crushed and devalued tbh.

I sadly also stopped going to Homemade due to tiny amounts of beef in what was supposed to be a beef stew.

Always found the service reasonable though so sorry to hear it has deteriorated.

Never felt crushed or devalued though :))

    • As I said, it was my understanding. I worded it very carefully. I didn't/don't know for sure, so clearly not a fact. And hardly an "opinion", which is something completely different. You have no idea what reason anybody might have had for not voting for him (unless you can point to some opinion poll results which actually asked people?)
    • Also, just to add, the threat to kill someone's dog and try to kick it, is an additional extremely unpleasant layer. I have noticed a lot of the burst water balloons lying around in the park too- that is not great for the environment either.
    • I’m basing it on the fact that Jeremy Corbyn had repeatedly and on record said he is against mandatory vaccinations in any situation, and he wouldn’t disclose wether he had the Covid vaccine himself    as I said. Not as bad as his brother but very definitely a bit weird about the whole thing. Just say you had the vaccination Jeremy, say that everyone should and stop being weird in the middle of a global pandemic    it’s the same slippery evasive nonsense about Brexit and him. About Putin poisonings and him.     if you are happy with his evasiveness then you do you.  But there is a reason the country wouldn’t get behind him
