Petition to end child food poverty - provide meal vouchers in school holidays

Recommended Posts

Hope it's okay to share on this page but I thought I would, as it's nearly at 1 million and could do with more support - government seem to be agreeing that no child should be without food over school holidays but refusing to act and provide vouchers for families in need (in contrast to Wales and Scotland I believe who are offering food vouchers in holidays until spring 2021 at least).

Whatever your party politics, hopefully we can all agree that nobody should be going hungry in this country in this day and age and by supporting free school meals in school holidays we are supporting their families also, in a period where many are suffering.

I read that London unemployment rates had doubled since the start of the pandemic. Truly shocking and I think many of us are very sheltered and fortunate to have stable jobs, so should be doing what we can whether supporting a petition or giving to a food bank or local charity.

Thanks for reading, much appreciated.

    • Well I did say I stand to be corrected! Fair enough, their website only seemed to list three branches. Perhaps it's a franchise model?  It's known as 'agglomeration' in economics Rookie error.
    • I didn't know there was a word for that — thanks!
    • This is just normal business behaviour. That's why there are so many coffee shops in ED and shops selling gifts and interiors stuff, clothes, restaurants.  If there's more than one business of a similar type then it can benefit all of them up to a saturation point and keep up quality. It's all sounding like many think Chango has made a malicious move when it actually sounds like it's owned by one guy who has a good business that has done well.   Anyway this is all great advertising for both empanada places. Very close by is the organic grocer who sells really good value and very tasty samosas and other Indian snacks which are also worth trying.
