I'm on the waiting list for minor day surgery (stomach hernia repair) at our lovely local hospital - Kings. Someone from there just phoned me and asked if I would like to have my op on 30 Nov under the same consultant but 'off-site'. I asked what 'off-site' meant and the lady said Weymouth Hospital. I declined and checked the web, Weymouth Hosp is 139 miles from me.

What on earth is going on?

Ah ha - just received a kindly PM telling me they probably mean the Weymouth Hospital in Weymouth Street W1 (private hosp). The caller from Kindgs did not make that clear at all but just said Weymouth Hospital ...

I found the confusion quite funny initially but now I am probably back at the bottom of the waiting list after declining.

The Weymouth Hospital is managed by the BMI group of private hospitals. It's a small 8 bed unit just off Harley St. King's is undoubtedly trying to reduce its waiting list and at least one of its General Surgeons must have a private practice at the Weymouth.

    • Is Dell Autos closing down completely or just moving? For whatever it's worth, for MOTs I've had good recent experience with The Test Centre in Deptford. They only do MOTs so they don't have any particular incentive to fail you and they usually have same day appointments. Open 7 days a week and late. https://www.thetestcentre.co.uk/our-test-centres/deptford-branch/ Obviously you would still need a "normal" garage to do servicing and repairs etc.
    • So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
    • No. What happened? I actually thought, considering it was what we used to call Guy Fawkes Day last night, the loud noises from  fireworks ended remarkably early. About 9pm? Maybe I just fell asleep and didn't hear any later ones. Do people actually burn Guys any more? Apart from at places like Lewes, where I believe they still have Bonfire Societies and burn effigies of various political figures etc.
    • The accompaniment to our "Christmas Pudding" aka Nothing-Whatever-Like-A- Christmas-Pudding last year  at The Cherry Tree was "brandy butter ice-cream." If it had ever been near any brandy, the brandy must have been waved in its direction from a very great distance. Same with butter. The ice cream tasted like bog standard "vanilla" from a catering tub. At least it did bear some resemblance to ice cream. Whereas the "Christmas Pudding" bore no resemblance whatever to any Christmas Pudding I have ever seen or tasted in my many  decades of seeing and tasting Christmas Puddings. Oh, and Cinzano Bianco. Bleurgh. My sister used to drink that. 🤢
